Hills
A slash-page listing hills I will die live on:
- Claims that archival paper has a longer lifespan than digital backups completely miss the point. The ability to make nigh-instant copies of a document and quickly verify a lack of transcription errors means that, although a given physical document might last longer than a digital one, a digital backup system has practically-infinitely better resiliency than an analog system.
- 2FA flows should never have a “click here to send the code” button - they should just send the code.
- BLM and ACAB are terrible slogans (for extremely worthwhile causes) which prioritize sounding clever over being convincing.
- BLM directly invites a very-reasonable-sounding response, “All Lives Matter”. Try disagreeing with that and still sounding convincing to someone who doesn’t already agree with you!
- ACAB requires a full explanation of what it really means in order to not sound like the stereotypical “loony Lefty” that Republican propaganda depicts.
- It’s justified to be frustrated at crying babies on planes, and it’s selfish to bring a baby on a plane. “Selfish” doesn’t always mean “wrong”, but it does mean that you’re putting your own wants above the likely comfort of a planeful of people. Maybe that’s the right decision if you’re, I don’t know, travelling to visit a dying relative - but you don’t get a free pass from judgement. A right to free travel is not a right to access any particular form of travel; if I had a magic box that had a 5% chance of randomly emitting a loud noise or an unpleasant smell, and I demanded to take it on an aircraft, I would rightly be refused passage, no matter how much I argued that it was important that I let the box see Disneyland.
